HIRSCH Servo AG: Volume Production Readiness Achieved for Plastic Pallets – Fourth Segment Launched:
Logistics The market for transport packaging is seeing many changes. Leading multinationals have
already decided to replace wooden pallets for ecological reasons and trends in pallets are now definitely
towards plastic. Some 850 million pallets are produced annually worldwide, of which currently only
around 3% are made of plastic. They are used in many different industries, including pharmaceuticals,
cosmetics, food and electronics, for temperature sensitive and high quality products, and airfreight.

Following almost two years’ development work, the first fully automatic HIRSCH pallet manufacturing
facility is ready for volume production. From now on completely jacketed polystyrene pallets (e.g. in
EuroPallet size of 1200x800x150 mm) weighing max. 10 kg can be manufactured at headquarters in
Glanegg. This pallet generation can be used as a four-way entry pallet (i.e. the pallet accepts all material handling equipment models from all sides) for loads of up to 1,000 kg or as a two-way pallet (access from two sides) for high bay racking with lower loads.

To expand the possible applications for this unique production technology, the prototype of a four-way
pallet with closed top deck and rack capability of up to 1,000 kg has also been developed. Volume
production readiness should be reached in the coming months.

All HIRSCH pallets are made entirely of polystyrene and can therefore be easily and 100% recycled. Compared
with products with similar performance parameters, HIRSCH pallets’ low weight can save over 50% in weight, which not only results in a range of benefits but also reduces freight and handling costs in particular.

The HIRSCH Servo Group has thus given the go-ahead for its fourth business segment of Logistics (1.EPS
Packaging, 2. EPS Insulation, 3. Technology). In the coming years, it intends to use HIRSCH pallet manufacturing facilities increasingly in its own plants and sell them to global alliance partners in a move to support the Group’s profit-oriented growth. A HIRSCH pallet manufacturing facility has a capacity of 100,000 to 300,000 pallets/year, depending on the pallet type.

The next date on the financial calendar is May 30, 2008 when the results for the third quarter 2007/08 will be announced.

*The HIRSCH Servo Group is the EPS specialist on the Vienna Stock Exchange with manufacturing facilities in Austria, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Italy and Romania. EPS products (EPS stands for expandable polystyrene and is better known under the brand name of Porozell®) support a variety of functions, including energy savings, as well as sustainable and eco-friendly growth. Their wide-ranging applications cover packaging, shape-molded parts, building insulation, modular boards for underfloor heating, construction blocks, Thermozell® lightweight concrete products and transport pallets.

PT Automation Solutions have been involved in many projects over the years both in the global and local
markets. One of the most interesting has been a project involved with a major packaging manufacture
Hirsch Servo.

PT’s were contracted to design and build the electrical system for a world first EPS pallet manufacturing
facility.

With the enormous need and focus to save the worlds precious resources it has never been more important than now to design and build 100% recyclable packaging solutions.

PT Automation Solutions are very proud to be a part of this world first project and look forward to working
with Hirsch in making this a success for many years to come.

HIRSCH Servo AG: In-House Development Paves the Way for Entry into Pallet Sector The market for transport
packaging is currently seeing many changes. Trends in pallets are towards sustainable reusable systems made of wood or, to an increasing extent, alternative materials. Experts reckon some 850 million new pallets are produced annually worldwide with alternative materials accounting for about ten percent. Of this figure, around 18 million are plastic pallets. They are used in many different industries, including pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, food and electronics, for temperature sensitive and high quality products, airfreight, etc.

Following a year’s development work, HIRSCH is now rolling out the prototype of a fully automatic pallet
manufacturing facility. It is scheduled to be production ready by the end of 2007. The unique production
process developed by HIRSCH maximizes flexibility and cost efficiency in manufacturing a new composite pallet using polystyrene. Thanks to its properties, the premium HIRSCH pallet is suitable for the most demanding solutions. It has been certified by the Institute of Distribution and Handling in Dortmund to ÖNORM EN ISO 8611-1 and a patent is pending.

Over the next few years, the HIRSCH Servo Group intends to operate an increasing number of HIRSCH pallet
plants. A HIRSCH pallet manufacturing facility has a capacity of around 300,000 pallets/year and the allets are 100% recyclable.

The next date on the financial calendar is October 18, 2007 when the balance sheet press conference and
the analysts’ and investors’ meeting will be held.

PT Automation is proud to accept the Mayors Innovation Award June 08 for the work carried out overseas on a world first EPS manufacturing facility that produces completed pallets in under 90 seconds.

The PT Team have been working on this project for the past two years, and have employed the technology of many major cutting edge companies such as Rockwell Automation, Festo, Schneider and ifm electronic.

We would like to give a very special thankyou to our sponsor the Gold Coast City Council for supporting our business and recognising the innovation and achievements of all our staff involved.

Special thanks to Chris Neihoff and Peter Taylor for all their hard work in making this happen.

Newsroom

P.T. Automation Solutions proudly accepted the Mayor’s Innovation Award in June 2008 for the work completed on an EPS pallet manufacturing facility. This facility, located in Austria is the first of its kind, in that it produces completed dual-sided EPS pallets in less than 90 seconds.

We spent over two years working on this project, and were responsible for the intricate design, electrical concepts, software engineering, CAD drawings, project management, installation, and testing.

While the P.T. Automation Solutions team put in countless hours and manpower into the design and implementation of this facility, the results would not have been possible without the innovative automation technologies provided by companies such as Festo and Rockwell Automation.

Be sure to check back into the newsroom often to stay apprised of future industrial electrical and automation achievements made by P.T. Automation Solutions.

In September 2012 P.T. Automation Solutions received the Gold Coast Council’s Manufacturing award for its continued growth in the electrical system manufacturing arena on the Gold Coast.
